Student Experience

Middle School students are starting to think and act more on their own. Our program reflects this; building confidence, motivation, and independence by challenging students with more sophisticated concepts and new levels of critical thinking. We encourage our students to be active members of their learning team, along with their parents and teachers.

The computer is a learning tool; just one of several tools our students use to learn and grow. Immersion in activities such as field trips, guest speaker series, interactions with collegiate & professional athletes will deepen student understanding and stimulate inquiry.

Acellus students in grades 6-8 typically spend between three to five hours each day on schoolwork; depending on their pace and involvement in additional elective courses.

Learn Online At Your Own Pace

Acellus Academy delivers its courses through an intuitive student interface. Within each course, students are provided with “lessons” that encompass all the resources to teach, convey, reinforce, and help the student learn and master a concept.

Each lesson begins with a video lecture in which a teacher presents a single, specific concept or a few concepts that are tightly intertwined. Acellus high-resolution videos give students the information and instruction they need to master the course material, creating the feeling of a one-on-one learning experience.

Acellus Student Interface

Student Dashboard

Each student is provided with a user name and password. From the dashboard, the student may select a class to work in. Once the student selects a class, they are immediately taken to their current position within the course.

Video-based Lessons

Each lesson begins with a short video lesson taught by a teacher who is an expert in their field. This video-based instruction allows students to learn independently, which can greatly leverage the time of a parent.

Practice Problems

Immediately after a video lesson, students receive practice problems to apply the concept presented in the lesson. Acellus requires students to master the concept before moving to the next lesson.

Reviews & Exams

At the conclusion of each unit, students take a review which is followed by an exam. During the review, students have the opportunity to review videos from lessons within the unit.

Extra Help Videos

For students who did not grasp the concept after watching the initial video lesson, additional more in-depth videos are available for each lesson.

Goals & Progress

Parents may specify weekly goals to help students stay on-pace with completing each course. Students may review their progress toward meeting these goals within the student interface.

Tiered Levels of Instruction

Acellus courses incorporate tiered levels of instruction by providing students with more than one video lesson for each concept. These multiple video lessons dig deeper with targeted instruction and are given the designation of A, B, and C videos. The Acellus system automatically integrates these special video lessons into a student’s individualized and personalized instructional study, depending on individual need.

What makes Acellus courses so engaging?

Acellus courses are taught by some of America’s greatest teachers. These instructors have expertise in conveying knowledge, and even “hard to grasp” concepts, through video instruction. Through the combination of excellent instruction and immediate feedback, students are quickly able to start experiencing success within their coursework.

Special Lessons

Special Lessons are also provided within each course to enrich the student learning experience with hands-on projects and activities. These assignments range from writing assignments, research projects, hands-on experiments, and more.

Help Videos

Special help videos are integrated into the course content for concepts students have difficulty with. These videos not only help the student master the content, but provide the student with “real world” scenarios, creating a meaningful context for obscure concepts.

Five-Star Courses

Acellus has launched a new initiative to create courses that are “five star” in the way that they help students grasp and master concepts. The lessons are filmed in a diversity of locations with only the best and most qualified instructors, keeping them fun and exciting so that both students and onsite teachers will rate the courses as 5 stars.
